Why purchase an outdoor patio heater?
Outdoor patio heating units are gaining
popularity as outdoor entertainment amenities,
effectively lengthening the season during
which barbecues and backyard fun can be
enjoyed. Outdoor heaters offer homeowners a
low-maintenance, convenient, and
cost-effective way to extend their outdoor
living well into the fall and beyond.
Just because the air
starts to get a bit nippy doesn't mean
consumers are ready to put away their grills
and patio furniture.
When did patio heaters come into widespread
use?
Outdoor patio
heaters have already successfully made the
move from restaurants to homeowners’
backyards, thanks to their effectiveness at
heating outdoor spaces. The advent of strict
smoking bans years ago in California prompted
restaurant owners to begin using outdoor patio
heaters to maximize their patron seating. Now,
thanks to their increasing popularity, these
heaters are available and affordable for the
average homeowner to maximize their own living
spaces.
Where should you
position your outdoor patio heater?
Choosing a Safe Location:
Patio heaters may
be installed on a combustible surface. If the
heater is installed near a combustible wall or
under a combustible ceiling, the minimum
clearances to combustibles must be adhered to.
The installation must adhere to all local and
applicable codes. In the absence of local
codes, it must adhere to the current CAN/B149
in Canada or ANSI 2223.1 in the United States.
For outdoor installations the heater must be
installed on a firm level surface.
Additional Information
Location can be the key when
adding an outdoor heater to your patio or
garden. An intimate spot is usually the best
place to position a patio heater, because
these outdoor heaters use radiant heat to warm
solid objects, not the actual air. If your
space contains a wall, fence, or cover of some
type, your patio heater will perform at its
maximum efficiency by radiating the heat off
of such objects and back onto you and your
guests.
